Route: how to ride up to the Jungfraujoch

  1. Get to Grindelwald Terminal: take the Bernese Oberland Railway from Interlaken Ost, about 31 minutes (check the SBB timetable). Grindelwald Terminal is the stop before Grindelwald station.
  2. Eiger Express: 15 minutes up to Eigergletscher. With a reservation, you can board in the 15-minute window before your reserved time. Without one, you can ride any time, but expect long waits at Eigergletscher.
  3. Jungfrau Railway: 26 minutes from Eigergletscher through the Eiger and Mönch, with a stop of about 5 minutes at Eismeer station. Jungfrau Railways asks you to pass the turnstiles at Eigergletscher at least 10 minutes before departure.
  4. Return: change at Eigergletscher and follow the "Grindelwald" signs. Or ride the Wengernalp Railway down from Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald or Wengen.

Our tip: Ride up on the Eiger Express and come back down via Kleine Scheidegg. Your outbound and return routes can be different. That way you see both sides of Kleine Scheidegg instead of riding the same line twice.

Is the Eiger Express worth it?

Yes, if you're heading to the Jungfraujoch and starting in Grindelwald. It's the fastest way up, with a view of the Eiger North Face on the way to Eigergletscher.

To be honest: The classic route via Kleine Scheidegg is the nicer way down, because you see different scenery. And in November, the Eiger Express is closed for 12 days, so the Wengernalp Railway is the only way up.
