What to do at First

First Cliff Walk

A walkway juts 45 m out into thin air along the cliff on the west side of the First summit. Plan about 20 minutes. It starts right by the top station at 2,166 m. jungfrau.ch lists no separate entry fee, you need a First gondola ticket.

First Flyer and First Glider

On the Flyer, you zip down an 800 m steel cable from First to Schreckfeld at up to 84 km/h. The Glider starts and ends at Schreckfeld, with up to four people flying together at up to 83 km/h. Both also run in winter. In winter, they are free for holders of a valid Jungfrau ski pass.

Mountain Cart and Trottibike

The Mountain Cart rolls 3 km down a gravel road from Schreckfeld to Bort. From Bort, you ride a Trottibike, a cross between a scooter and a bike, down to the village. Both are summer only.

Lake Bachalpsee

From First, the mountain lake at 2,265 m is less than an hour's walk. Allow about 2 hours round trip. The trail is free.

Tip: Arrive before noon for the adventure activities. Jungfrau Railways has no fixed time slots and recommends coming in the morning. In bad weather or at peak times, an activity may be temporarily unavailable.

How to get there

Take the Bernese Oberland Railway from Interlaken Ost to Grindelwald (trains every 30 minutes). Get off at Grindelwald station, not at Grindelwald Terminal.
Walk about 10 minutes through the village to the First gondola base station.
Ride 25 minutes via Bort and Schreckfeld up to First.

Is First worth it?

Yes, if you want views and action in one trip. First is closer, cheaper and more varied than the Jungfraujoch. With the Cliff Walk, Lake Bachalpsee and one ride down, you can easily fill half a day or a full day.

Honestly: If you only want the views, the gondola plus the Cliff Walk and Bachalpsee is enough. The Adventure Package already pays off with one activity.
