Best time to visit the Jungfraujoch
- Weather matters more than season. Rain in the valley tells you little about the view at 3,454 m. Check the webcams on jungfrau.ch the night before and in the morning.
- Go early. From May 1 to October 31, 2027, the Good Morning Ticket gives 20% off (the jungfrau.ch price overview says 15%) according to jungfrau.ch, valid on the first 2 connections of the day. It can't be combined with a Half Fare Card, GA or Swiss Travel Pass.
- There is always snow. According to Jungfrau Railways, there is snow and ice on the plateau 365 days a year.
- Fall and winter are cheaper than summer (see the price table).
Altitude: tips for a comfortable day
The air is thinner at 3,454 m. In its brochure, Jungfrau Railways recommends:
- take it slow, the altitude matters
- warm clothes, even in summer
- sturdy shoes with good grip
- sun protection (sunglasses, sunscreen)
- drink enough water
- keep an eye on children
If you have health concerns, Jungfrau Railways publishes medical tips at jungfrau.ch/medicaltips. Talk to your doctor before a trip to high altitude.

Is the Jungfraujoch worth it?
Yes, on a clear day. The ride through the Eiger and Mönch, the view over the Aletsch Glacier and snow in the middle of summer are one of a kind. For many visitors, it is the highlight of their trip to Switzerland.
Honestly: If the summit is in the clouds, you pay a lot of money for a white-out. If your ticket allows it, move your trip to a clearer day.
Cheaper alternatives with Eiger views:
- Grindelwald-First (2,166 m), First gondola from CHF 38 with a Half Fare Card or Swiss Travel Pass, about twice that without a discount (as of October 2026)
- Kleine Scheidegg (2,061 m), from CHF 40.60 (as of October 2026)
- Männlichen with the Panorama Trail to Kleine Scheidegg

Ways to save:
- With a Half Fare Card you pay half from Grindelwald. A Swiss Travel Pass only gives 25% here.
- Go in fall or winter instead of summer.
- Use the Good Morning Ticket (May to October).
